Not many reaches of the Pit River have stable riparian corridors. Those that do can withstand high winter flows. This stability ensures that water delivery systems such as pumps are not eroded and money is not spent on replacement of them.

Restoration of upstream creeks and meadows also helps downstream users on the Pit River. When creeks and meadow streams function properly, the amount of water that flows in them during peak flows is reduced, thereby reducing the “pressure” of flood flows on stream banks of the Pit river, water delivery systems, and farming and ranching equipment.
