This project was a prescribed fire within a previously thinned ponderosa pine stand that was designed to reduce fuel loading. By reducing fuel loading, Forest managers are able to decrease the risk of catastrophic wildfire within stands. These areas are burned in the spring of the year with the goal of removing fuels that are 1 or less in diameter. These are the fuels that contribute to fire spread and intensity during the dry summer months.
